Ever wonder what it’s like to juggle flaming torches while riding a unicycle on a tightrope? No? Well, that’s pretty much a day in my life as your Scrum Master.
First, there’s the daily stand-up, where I crack more jokes than a late-night comedian (maybe this can be a career opportunity for me). If laughter is the best medicine, then our team is the healthiest in the industry.
Next, there’s my meticulous questioning of our velocity. Some people count sheep to sleep, but I count story points and then debate their legitimacy. It’s like watching a mathematician argue with a calculator – simultaneously perplexing and entertaining.
But the real magic happens when I play bridge – no, not the card game, but bridging the gap between our team and the Product Owner. Making sure everyone is on the same page is my specialty.

Retrospectives are another highlight. I try different setups each time to keep them interesting and engaging. From themed retrospectives to interactive activities, I ensure they’re anything but boring. Plus, I help my colleagues come up with action items to improve our way of working.
Sprint planning is where my advocacy shines. I’m always on the lookout to ensure we don’t take on too many stories. After all, if we overload our sprint, I hint that we might have to pay with extra hours – and nobody wants that! I also try to keep everyone happy, bargaining that the first colleague who finishes their story can always take the highest priority item from the backlog.

And then there’s PI Planning, the ultimate test of my superhero abilities. This is where the real fun begins. Like a bounty hunter on a mission, I start hunting people down for their availability, preparing schedules with the precision of a Swiss watchmaker. After all that preparation, we have the big event where we try our best to plan every detail together and hope for the best. Coordinating dependencies with other trains feels like untangling a web of spaghetti – a real test of our collaboration and patience!
Scrum of Scrums meetings are a whole other adventure. It’s where the Scrum Masters meet the supreme Scrum Master (Release Train Engineer) and exchange recipes ideas. We always strive to improve our processes and create the best environment for our teams. These meetings are like brainstorming sessions on steroids.
Then there’s the Agile community of practice, where we all have our „AHA” moments. It’s a blend of rethinking our career choices and convincing ourselves we have the best strategies for our own teams. These sessions are both enlightening and helpful.
Oh, and let’s not forget – to excel in this role, you need to be a wizard with JIRA sheets. It’s like managing a giant puzzle where every piece has to fit just right.
In short, I don’t just keep the ship sailing smoothly; I make sure we’re all laughing our way to the finish line. Who knew agile could be this much fun?

As we conclude, Hanna’s story reminds us that a Scrum Master’s dedication, adaptability, and leadership are vital to achieving agile success, one sprint at a time.
